After a very lackadaisical all star game the major league baseball season enters the second half, and several teams will need to get a quick start, if they plan on staying in the race. The Cubs open with a four game set against the pesky Pirates and they hope that Jerry Hairston can be their sparkplug at the top of the order. Nomar’s replacement Neifi Perez is on a quick decent from the penthouse to the outhouse, as he is hitting just .195 in July and that comes on the heels of a sub par .229 June.
It all starts with pitching and Wood, Prior, Maddux and Zambrano must step up for a prolonged period. Texas Rangers pitcher Kenny Rogers is hoping that all the commotion over his assault on a camera man will subside soon and he then can focus on leading the Rangers to division title. Are you kidding me Kenny? The MLB cronies give you a 20-game suspension and you and the union make a mockery of the system by appealing the verdict.
The video doesn’t lie and he and the union should be ashamed of themselves. Either way he will open the second half of the season for the Rangers against the Oakland A’s, who in his career has dominated. It doesn’t get much better then 19-1 since 1994 and the Rangers need pitching.
Bad news for the golfers at St. Andrews, who hope to take a shot at the British Open title this weekend, is that the Tiger is on the prowl! The notoriously slow starting Woods, ripped of a 66 this morning and his 6 under par, is good for the outright lead. My personal pick this weekend Retief Goosen will give him a go this weekend and he currently sits at -4.
Who said NASCAR is strictly a southern sport, as these guys have already been in California twice, Las Vegas and Phoenix, and now head east to quaint New Hampshire, for the New England 300. Defending Nextel Cup champion Kurt Busch found victory lane last year here, but things have soured for him in 2005. He already has 2 DNF and needs to turn it around.
We already discussed the tremendous fight this weekend involving the grizzled veteran warrior Bernard Hopkins and southern boy Jermain Taylor. While I have all the respect in the world for Hopkins, Taylor is the real deal and will prevail!
I’m sticking with my guns that I stated in April that the Yankees are overrated, with no depth and will not qualify for post season. Randy Johnson is a mediocre pitcher these days and age will catch up to Posada and Williams. _________________ Looking for a free bet? Check out Guide 2 Freebets. |
