The major league non-waiver trade deadline arrives this Sunday July 31st at 4:00pm and there are several general managers’ job security riding on the moves that they make this weekend.

Believe it or not there are 23 teams who still have a mathematical chance at least a wild card spot and only the Devil Rays, Royals, Mariners, Reds, Rockies, Pirates and Giants and given up the chase.

The most attractive item out there may be the left arm belonging to 40+ Jamie Moyer of the Seattle Mariners. Any club willing to assume the $8 million on his contract can have the crafty lefthander, who has a slew of post season experience.

I must be the only one who doesn’t think the Rangers will part with Alfonso Soriano as all the television and newspapers reports keep alluding to an impending deal. What about Kenny Rogers and Soriano for Manny Ramirez and Bronson Arroyo?

The Orioles are dangling hefty Sidney Ponson and his even heftier $8.5 million contract, but there are few takers, as the Aruban may have worn out his welcome in the majors. Former Tiger, former Yankee and soon to be former Dodger will vacate his digs in California this weekend, as someone will grab him for the stretch run.

The party has to be over in Cincinnati and you have to think that Ken Griffey Jr. is on the move from the state of Ohio and could be patrolling the outfield with Beltran and Floyd next week in Shea Stadium.

Am I the only one that has noticed that the homerun totals and weight of Giambi, Sosa and Helton have increased in the last month? Do you think that the major league baseball’s drug police have decided to take the rest of the year off and this has allowed three cheaters the opportunity to ‘juice” up again?

There are all kinds of rumors floating around the Windy City these days and for a change it is coming from the south side and involves the White Sox. They have a plethora of starters over there, but are they the right ones? With an abundance of young talent in their farm system, they may deal with the Pirates and lefty Mark Redmond may be the one they grab!
