It seems like just yesterday that then president Bill Clinton looked right into the camera and stated to the entire country that “I did not have sexual relations with that woman”! Well then the evidence began to become overwhelming and we eventually realized that even the most powerful person in the world, lies too.

Appearing with Mark McGwire, Sammy Sosa and other baseball stars before a congressional committee on March 17, Palmeiro made an opening statement in which he said: "Let me start by telling you this: I have never used steroids. Period. I don't know how to say it any more clearly than that. Never."
Palmeiro was so emphatic in his denial of steroid use that he pointed his index finger at the panel, and expressed indignation over accusations made by former slugger Jose Canseco, who cited Palmeiro as a steroid user in his tell-all book.

Well here we are the first day of August and the announcement has been made that Palmeiro has been suspended for 10 days , for testing positive for the banned substance and once again he his denying that he is a user. This sounds like O. J. Simpson all over again and the fans are going to have a field day with this one.

I had suggested just last week, that the MLB testing had its flaws and I was convinced that Giambi and Sosa are both back on the steroids. These guys are so insecure and like most athletes on the downside, they feel helpless and desperate, at the thought that it could be over.

With the advancements that have been made in modern medicine, especially when it comes to knee injuries, one must question the prolonged absence of Barry Bonds. Sure he has had three operations, but with rehab and a bra e, surely he can swing a bat. Is Bonds purposely sitting out, hoping the buzz about steroids will subside, or is he waiting for the latest drug that is undetectable in the lab?

Yesterday Bret Boone was released by the Twins just a few weeks after signing with them. What happened to the awesome power this guy displayed for several years and he is another one mentioned by Canseco. Down in Clearwater, Florida the Phillies Jim Thome is supposedly getting healthier and may be able to return to Philadelphia. Here is a guy that has crushed the ball the past several years with Philadelphia and Cleveland and all of a sudden cannot hit the ball, more then 300 feet! Seven homeruns and 30 RBI’s in 59 games do not equate to a $10 million salary.

As for Palmeiro, the party is over and I would not be surprised if he is going to have to seek out a new career when the dust settles. He has two sons who are 10 and 15-years old and I am sure their school buddies are going to heckle them big time. As a father he has a responsibility to his kids, to teach them the harm that steroids can cause and also that when you are subpoenaed by the highest court in America, it would be wise to tell the truth. As for his letting down baseball fans, I think that is ridiculous as when he is gone, another player will come along and take his place. If you asked the average fan would they attend games, if they knew that all players took steroids and the playing field was level, the answer would be a resounding yes!

Baseball players should be ashamed of themselves and maybe they can learn from the NFL about being steroid free! Yeah right!
