One area that bettors would be wise to focus on when wagering on baseball, basketball and hockey, is teams that have had an extended stay on the West Coast and now must come back to EST and play that night!

Great case in point occurred last night as the Philadelphia Phillies returned from California after a very successful six days where they went 5-1 against the Dodgers and Padres. They never flew out of San Diego until 7:00 pm and arrived in Philly at 3:00 am EST.

By the time they grabbed their luggage and headed home wired from traveling and the time difference, it was early morning rush hour in Philadelphia. Now the hard part began as they must be at the ballpark by 4:00 pm for the 7:00 pm game.

Livan Hernandez of the Washington Nationals had an easy time of it against the travel weary Phillies who could only muster up 7 hits and 3 runs. When you take into account that the Nationals were coming off a 3-game sweep at home on the weekend and had a short flight to Philly, this was a nice spot to back the Nationals.

I myself just came back from ten days on the West Coast and like the Phillies arrived early in the morning and went to bed as the sun was coming up. Today I felt like I had been run over by a freight train and thank God, I didn’t have to head to the ballpark and face a 90 mph. heater.

Checkout the major league schedule and chart the teams in the next month who are going to be out west and then flying back and having to play the next day at home, against a team that has not been traveling much.

Many professional handicappers like to use this angle when West Coast NFL or NCAA teams who are on Pacific Coast Time travel east to play a game at 1:00 pm EST. The math is quite simple! Playing a 1:00 EST is really 10:00 am to West Coast teams. That means they must eat at 6:00 am and then be at the park for 7:30 am their time.

The greater majority of athletes are all about routine and when that rhythm is thrown out of sync, the end result is not a positive one!
