It is a familiar song that has been playing out since April and the words always come back to the less then stellar pitching staff, when discussing the Yankees woes. The crew has been back at it the last five games allowing 32 runs in those affairs.

Last night it as multi millionaire Mike Mussina’s turn to get lit up by the Tribe as he allowed 9 hits and 6 runs in just over one hours work. Believe it or not but Mussina’s ERA of 4.05 leads the team and that in itself is a frightening thought for skipper Joe Torre.
Tonight they march out newly acquired Shawn Chacon as they try and avoid a sweep at the hands of the surging Indians. Acquired from Colorado last Wednesday for two Double-A pitchers, Chacon had a solid debut for New York on Saturday, allowing just one unearned run and four hits over six innings of a 8-7 win over the Angels that was decided after his exit.
The Yankees -- who have dropped the first two games of this series after a 7-4 defeat on Wednesday night -- are hoping Chacon can help the team avoid its first sweep at the hands of an opponent since Kansas City swept them in three straight from May 31-June 2.
Carl Pavano allowed three runs and six hits over six innings in a rehabilitation start for Class-A Tampa on Wednesday night.
Pavano struck out three and walked none, throwing 56 of 77 pitches for strikes against the Vero Beach Dodgers.
The Yankees hope Pavano can rejoin the rotation next week. He is 4-6 with a 4.77 ERA this season and doesn't have a win since May 22.
The days are over when Randy Johnson can intimidate hitters with his fastball and although I thought proven veteran Al Leiter may be able to help them, obviously Florida who is in the thick of a pennant race, wouldn’t have let a lefthanded arm go, if it was still worth something!
There’s always Goose Gossage!
